To qualify for the 2007 competition
- Applicants must not have been older than 20 years of age on 31 March, 2007.

- The competition was open to anyone who was living and studying in Thailand.

- Each applicant needed to be nominated by an organization such as a school or music society.

From a total of 76 applicants who presented their performances on DVDs/CDs, 7 qualified for the final and performed at the Conrad hotel on 31 March, 2007. The Performance and Gala Dinner was attended by invited guests including Privy Councillors to The King of Thailand, Ambassadors, Professors, Celebrities and media. The four high profile international judges consisted of :

Mr. Richard Harvey (2nd right) : a prolific composer for Hollywood Films such as Harry Potter, The Da Vinci Code, Kingdom of Heaven, The Lion King and many more. He has recorded for and collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney, Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson -Williams, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, John Williams, Stanley Myers and numerous others and has also made several classical albums.
Mr. Michael Ma (2nd left) : Head of Strings at the Hong Kong Academy, Hong Kong.
Mr. Chris Craker (1st right) : General Manager and Senior Vice President of Sony BMG Masterworks, USA.
Mr. Albert Tiu (1st left) : Assistant Professor in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Vice President of the Singapore Music Teachers’ Association, Singapore.

Ms. Tapalin Charoensuk, a Thai Cellist age 18, was the Winner and she received The King’s Award, cash prize and a trip to London to perform in concert organized by the Royal Over-Seas League London.

The King's Award from His Majesty King Bhumibhol Adulyadej has been specially designed by Mr. Watcharapol Lerlertthiyanupap, Conrad Bangkok Graphic Designer Manager. The impressive teakwood base, a carving of elephants, was ordered from Lamphun province in the north of Thailand, carved by 5 craftsmen. The uniquely designed treble clef logo on the top has now been officially registered as well as the name “The Conrad Young Musician of Thailand Competition”.
